Although having very large breasts may seem desirable, they can be challenging to deal with. In fact many women with overly large breasts desire smaller breasts, so they decide to undergo breast reduction surgery. However, one of the first questions they need to ask their plastic surgeon is – Am I a candidate for breast reduction.
What is breast reduction?
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure in which skin, breast fat, and glandular tissue is removed from the breasts to make them smaller. Breast reduction surgery makes the breasts lighter, better proportioned and improves the overall figure. The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.
Are you a candidate for breast reduction?
Excessively large breasts can lead to a number of physical problems including pain and poor posture. Large, heavy breasts are especially bothersome for women with petite frames, and can cause pain in the neck, shoulder, and back.
Breasts that are too heavy can result in poor posture, as they put extra pressure on the chest. Women with very large breasts may also have rashes in the area of the skin trapped beneath the breasts, as well as grooves in the shoulders because of tight bra straps.
If you are experiencing any of the foregoing physical problems, or have difficulty finding clothes that fit because your breast are too large when compared to your body size, you may be a good candidate for breast reduction surgery.
Candidates for breast reduction should also be in good health, and have a relatively normal body weight.
