Intercourse should be a pleasurable experience, but there are millions of women who find it painful. Unfortunately, they obtain little relief from the usual remedies such as vaginal lubricants and “menopausal” estrogen supplements. So are there any other medical options to assist with getting rid of painful sex.
What causes painful sex?
Pain with intercourse is often the result of a condition known as vulvodynia. The pain can range from mild to severe, and may be ongoing or intermittent. Most medical researchers are not sure of the exact cause of the condition, but the experts in vaginal health at Fowler Gyn International (FGI), have identified links to shifts in the vaginal micro-flora.
FGI carries out advanced diagnostic testing in order to confirm changes in the vaginal micro-flora. This involves a Vaginal Fluid Analysis (VFA) test, to identify the constituents of the vagina, and determine if the vaginal micro-flora pattern has been altered in any way.
Altered micro-flora patterns can result in vaginal secretions that irritate the tissues and cause symptoms such as burning, pain, irritation, itching, discharge and odor. They also increase the propensity for yeast to grow in the vagina which can lead to recurrent yeast infections.
Treatment
The treatment protocol offered by FGI depends on the results from the diagnostic tests and the hormonal profile of the individual and is therefore customized for each patient. The improvement on average takes 4-6 months. In most patients this is heralded with great joy because of the intensity of the symptoms are often lifestyle altering.
The FGI protocol includes the use of hygiene products for sensitive skin in all cases of vulvodynia. Dr. R. Stuart Fowler of FGI has clinically observed over years of practice which products are well tolerated and mutually beneficial. The skin care collection of products is called FeminaRx Pure Skin Care Collection. The Collection includes of hypocontactant soap, astringent skin rinse for the external genitalia, moisturizing skin lotion, a neutral emollient for exercise, hypoallergenic sexual lubricant and soothing shaving cream.
