How long do Bellafill injections last?

If you are bothered by annoying smile lines or acne scars, Bellafill injectable treatment can tackle those issues for you.  Bellafill is a collagen-based filler that is designed to treat smile lines and deep acne scars.  Bellafill offers hope for people that may have given up on finding a solution to these skin concerns.  But how long do Bellafill injections last.

What is Bellafill?

Bellafill is a dermal filler that is FDA approved to treat smile lines (nasolabial folds) and indented acne scars.  Nasolabial folds, commonly referred to as smile lines, are the lines that run from either side of the nose, down to the corners of the mouth.  Bellafill is able to add volume to smile lines, and it also smooths and gives a subtle lift to sunken acne scars.

Bellafill consists of 80% purified bovine collagen, and 20% polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres.  PMMA is a biocompatible material that has been used for many years to make medical implants.

Bellafill Treatment

When Bellafill is injected below the surface of the skin, the collagen gel immediately gets to work to fill in the wrinkles and acne scars, making the skin smoother and softer.  The microspheres in Bellafill are non-absorbable, so they provide structural support for the skin.

What to expect after treatment

Smile lines and indented acne scars will be noticeably smoother within a few weeks of treatment, but results will keep improving as the skin generates new collagen. As the volume in the skin increases the smile lines and scars will become less noticeable.

There may be a little redness, bruising, and pain at the treatment site, but this usually resolves within a few hours.  Patients can generally apply makeup immediately after treatment if they wish to.

Bellafill is safe for use on most skin types.  However, because it contains bovine collagen people considering treatment have to undergo a mandatory allergy test, to ensure that their skin won’t react adversely to the filler.

How long do Bellafill injections last?

Bellafill is especially noted for its effects and the longevity of results because it lasts much longer than other fillers.  Bellafill delivers instant results, and the improvements continue over time as collagen rebuilds.  Bellafill is a collagen stimulator, so it is able to create long-term effects and has been clinically proven to last up to 5 years when used to fill in smile lines.

The PMMA microspheres are not absorbed, so they provide a support base below the skin that encourages the formation of collagen, hence the long-term results. In a 5-year duration study published by Suneva Medical, the distributors of Bellafill, close to 90% of the patients in the study were happy with their results at the end of the 5 years.

When used to fill in acne scars, Bellafill typically lasts for approximately 12 months.

For best results, Bellafill must be injected at the right location using the correct dosage.  It’s therefore ideal that patients consult with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon, before making any decisions about treatment.

Benefits of Bellafill

Bellafill lasts for 5 years, and that’s very long for a cosmetic injectable treatment, so there is no need for regular follow-up visits.  Most dermal fillers last 6-12 months, so in comparison, Bellafill is a long-lasting filler.

Since Bellafill has collagen as its base, it provides an immediate lift to the area being treated, so patients can expect instant improvement.  In addition, the microspheres work below the skin to assist the formation of new collagen.

Another benefit of using Bellafill is the fact that there is no downtime after treatment, so patients can get back to their normal activities as soon as they walk out of their doctor’s office.

Bellafill is a quick cosmetic treatment that can be conveniently done in the lunch break, so there is no need to take any time off work.  This makes it the ideal treatment for busy people that want a cosmetic treatment that delivers real results in a short time.
