What is the Recovery time for a Tummy Tuck?

If you are considering a tummy tuck, you may be wondering about some things relating to surgery, like the recovery time.   Tummy tuck surgery can give you a flatter belly and define your waistline, but one question that patients frequently ask is – What is the recovery time for a tummy tuck.

What is a tummy tuck

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a procedure that is done to make the abdomen trimmer and firmer.  This involves removing excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen, and tightening the underlying muscles if required.

What is the Recovery time for a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is an invasive operation, so it generally requires a few weeks of recovery.  Some patients may find recovery after a tummy tuck somewhat challenging since the abdomen is involved in most movements, and the area is normally very sore and uncomfortable immediately after surgery.

Recovery after a tummy tuck typically takes 2-3 weeks,  but the timeline may vary based on the physical health of the patient, and the extent of the tummy tuck.  If the abdominal muscles are tightened during the procedure, additional time will be required for full recovery (click here to learn more).

Physical movement is minimized in the days following surgery. so as not to strain the stomach muscles.  However, patients are encouraged to get up and walk every day, to ensure that they can move about normally.

If you are considering a tummy tuck it’s important to discuss the recovery process with your plastic surgeon, as this will ease any anxiety you may have.
