Will Vulvodynia Ever Go Away?

For women living with vulvodynia, the physical and emotional effects can be devastating because of the ongoing pain and discomfort.   They often feel frustrated because they spend years trying to get relief, so they end up wondering  –  Will vulvodynia ever go away.

What is Vulvodynia?

Vulvodynia is a condition characterized by persistent pain near the opening of the vagina (vulva), which lasts for more than 3 months.   Irritation, soreness, pain with intercourse, urinary freq/urgency and lesser degree of itching, are some of the other symptoms of vulvodynia.  Vulvodynia can affect women of all ages.

Will Vulvodynia Ever Go Away?

Vulvodynia can go away with proper treatment.  Vulvodynia is one of the vulvovaginal conditions treated by the experts in vaginal care at Fowler GYN International (FGI).  The success of these treatment protocols is due to research conducted by FGI founder board-certified gynecologist Dr. R. Stuart Fowler.  Dr. Fowler is a leading specialist in vulvovaginal health and has done extensive research into vulvodynia.

The research carried out revealed that vulvodynia is caused by an altered vaginal microflora pattern. The vaginal secretions from the altered microflora irritate the tissues at the vaginal opening, and this leads to vulvodynia pain and other symptoms. Vulvodynia treatment therefore involves restoring balance to the vaginal microflora.

Dr. Fowler developed the vaginal fluid analysis (VFA) test to determine if the vaginal microflora pattern is abnormal.  The VFA test evaluates the type and quantity of the vaginal constituents.  The results will therefore inform the specific medications needed to restore balance to the vaginal microflora.

There is no one-size-fits-all cure for vulvodynia, so FGI formulates a customized treatment protocol for each patient.  When the vaginal microflora pattern is once again normal, the symptoms of vulvodynia will go away.
